ISTQB® CTFL 4.0 Syllabus Updates

ISTQB® CTFL 4.0 Syllabus Updates

As announced in May 2023, ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level 4.0 has arrived, marking
an important milestone in the world of software testing. This update signals a significant shift in
the certification landscape, reflecting the evolving needs of the industry.
Let us get into the details on what changes and how it benefits the software testing industry.

The ISTQB® CTFL 4.0 syllabus brings about several noteworthy changes, both in content and
philosophy.
First, it places a stronger emphasis on Agile testing methodologies and includes the most recent
approaches, acknowledging the increasing adoption of Agile practices in software development.
Second, the updated syllabus introduces a more holistic approach to testing, emphasizing the
importance of collaboration and risk-based testing. Additionally, CTFL 4.0 proposes new
techniques related to quality control, defining quality gates, and writing and executing
acceptance tests.
As stated on the iSQI blog, “Testing is no longer just a dedicated function, but a role with quality-
related activities that any team member can undertake.”
At Digi Test Lab, we believe that these changes hold important benefits for software testers,
both in the present and the future. By integrating Agile principles into the certification curriculum,
the CTFL 4.0 syllabus equips testers with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in Agile
development mode.
The emphasis on collaboration and risk-based testing empowers testers to become strategic
partners in the software development process, rather than mere quality assurance gatekeepers.
Concerning the timeline of implementation, the Syllabus version 3.1 training and exams in
English will be available until 9 th of May 2024, and until the 9 th of November for the Non-English
syllabi.
All in all, we are excited about the changes introduced in the ISTQB® CTFL 4.0 syllabus. We
believe that these updates will not only benefit individual testers but also contribute to the
overall advancement of the industry. We look forward to welcoming you to our classrooms,
whether physical or virtual, and to empowering you with this new knowledge.
